We’re over halfway through the season and now is the most active time of the year for most leagues to be making trades. Whether you are in a keeper league and playing for the future, or whether you’re attempting to finish this season with a bang, you’re going to need to make the right plays going forward.
Let’s begin with some bold plays for Week 9 in fantasy football:
Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
Winston gets a favorable match-up this week against the Giants who just gave up an absurd amount of yardage and points in the air to the Saints a week ago. Andrew Luck has been struggling, resulting in a firing of Pep Hamilton, and Luck has the tough Broncos defense this week.
Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears over Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
Despite losing Matt Forte, I think Cutler will do alright being forced to throw the ball down field against the San Diego Chargers. Tannehill hasn’t been consistent and is coming off a rough week against the Patriots. The Bills defense won’t do him any favors this week.
Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers over Johnathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers
Folks are down on Lacy and understandably so. But he’s not going to continue to struggle this much and despite the tough Panthers defense, he’ll be just fine. Look for Stewart to struggle as the Packers hope to prevent teams from doing what Denver did in Week 8.
Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals over LeGarrette Blount, New England Patriots
Blount is a closer and he’s not guaranteed a ton of touches. The match-up for Blount against Washington is a fair one, but Bernard is in an even better position to score against the lowly Cleveland Browns defense in prime time.
Brandin Cooks, New Orleans Saints over Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
Lots of folks have been impressed with the play of Robinson and Allen Hurns. But this Jets defense won’t be exposed two weeks in a row. Cooks facing a terrible Tennessee defense offers much more promise.
Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers over Michael Crabtree, Oakland Raiders
Crabtree has been solid here and there, but Floyd is on fire in the last two weeks and the Chargers just lost Keenan Allen for the season. Floyd is a very hot pickup in all leagues this week.
Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers over Gary Barnidge, Cleveland Browns
The Raiders pass rush has improved which makes me think that Big Ben will need to get rid of the ball in a hurry, making Miller a fun option this week, especially in PPR leagues. Barnidge is enjoying quite a run, but this is the week his significant fantasy status ends.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Minnesota Vikings
The Steelers don’t have an ideal match-up as the Raiders seem to be making significant plays even against top notch defenses. But I think the Steelers play tough this week making Derek Carr earn his yardage down field. The Vikings face off against Todd Gurley is as hot as any RB in the league right now.
San Diego Chargers over New Orleans Saints
The Saints defense still gives us too many points and the Chargers are at least capable of potential turnovers, especially as long as they face Jay Cutler.
