The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in an apparent attempt to garner a little attention for a largely-unimportant NFL franchise, unveiled a new logo and helmet design on Thursday.
The team has been wearing a brownish helmet with a red pirate flag on the side since 1997. You can see that thing here. The new helmet is still the pewter color, though more sleek and shiny, with a chrome fasemask, which looks kinda nifty. Then, for some reason, they’ve made the pirate flag enormous, and have altered the skull in the middle into what they describe as a more “intimidating” look. Here it is.
The team is also planning on unveiling a new uniform on March 5. No word on what that’ll look like, but you can expect it to be pretty underwhelming considering the complete lack of creativity that went into designing the helmet.
Tampa Bay finished in the basement of the NFC South last season at just 4-12. They canned their brutish moron of a head coach, Greg Schiano, after just two seasons at the helm, and upgraded to former Bears head man Lovie Smith.
