According to FOX Sports‘ Jay Glazer, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided to hire former Bears coach Lovie Smith to be their new head coach.

Considering Greg Schiano was just fired this past Monday, this all came together rather quickly. Glazer tweeted that the two sides are on the verge of finalizing a contract.

Smith was the head man with Chicago from 2004-2012, compiling an 81-63 record, along with an appearance in Super Bowl XLI against Indianapolis. He was fired by the Bears following last season, despite the team finishing with a 10-6 record.

The Buccaneers endured all sorts of drama this season under Schiano, including quarterback controversies, an MRSA outbreak and countless reports of players’ unhappiness playing for Schiano. Tampa Bay finished 4-12, tied for last place in the NFC South, but did go 4-4 over their final eight games.
