The Robert Griffin III era reigns on for at least one more season. Or at least the start of it. Washington Redskins head coach conceded on Wednesday afternoon that RG3 would indeed be the Redskins’ starting quarterback to start the 2015 NFL season, with either Kirk Cousins or Colt McCoy to back him up. In the effort to not read too much into the announcement, we’ll just bank on Gruden going with the passer who provides the best combination of sheer talent and upside, while another off-season or training and good health certainly can’t hurt RG3’s efforts.
Robert Griffin III really has been abysmal for the past two years, but it’s not all his fault. He’s had to change offenses and head coaches, he’s had multiple injuries and he arguably rushed back in 2013 from a knee injury. Heading into 2015 completely healthy, RG3 will be all out of excuses and short on time to prove he’s actually the answer under center for Washington. If he can do that, he might just prove to be a solid value pick in 2015 fantasy football drafts, as well. Of course, with the insane depth at the quarterback position in fantasy leagues, taking the dive for RG3’s potential really doesn’t seem worth it.
