It seems as if a fire sale is about to begin in Chicago. After starting 0-3, the Bears quickly shifted their focus on the long term and struck a deal with the undefeated Panthers.

The Bears are sending veteran pass rusher Jared Allen to Carolina. Allen, while not who he once was, can still provide legitimate pass rush, he surely provides a boost for the Panthers in that department. He should make much more of an impact than he did with Chicago as he returns to a familiar 4-3 defense. The Panthers will be without Charles Johnson in week 4, their prized pass rusher, as he sits out with a hamstring issue. This means we’ll get to see a lot of Allen as he makes his Panthers debut.

In return, the Bears will receive a conditional 6th round pick as they look to accumulate as many picks as possible for this year’s draft. For a rebuilding team, stocking up on draft picks is vital. Soon after dealing Allen, they were able to get another 6th round pick from New England as they sent Jon Bostic packing. Allen recorded only 5.5 sacks in 18 games with the Bears and Bostic has been inactive every game this season.

As the Bears enter rebuilding mode under John Fox, look for them to make more moves within the coming weeks and unload some big names.
