During Sunday’s less than stellar receiving performance, Roddy White tweaked his hamstring making his status for Week 3’s Thursday night matchup against Lovie Smith and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a question mark. White sat out of Falcon’s practice on Tuesday which makes this very concerning for White owner’s because it is a short week for Atlanta. Obviously, White has been around the team and the system long enough that he doesn’t need every practice rep in order to play. The situation will be further updated when the official injury report comes out on Wednesday.
For fantasy players looking for a quick substitute in the case that White ends up sitting out on Thursday, the handcuff play here is Harry Douglas, the Falcons third string wide receiver behind Roddy and Julio. Douglas did a very commendable job last season becoming a vocal point of the Atlanta Falcon’s passing attack while Julio and Roddy were sidelined with injuries. Thus far through two games, Harry Douglas has seen a combined 15 targets, hauling in 10 of them for 107 yards and 0 touchdowns. If White misses Thursday’s game, you can pencil Douglas in as a high end WR3 with WR2 upside against a Tampa Bay defense that has given up 441 passing yards to below average quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Austin Davis.
***[UPDATE]*** Vaughn McClure, an ESPN reporter that covers the Atlanta Falcons says that there’s “no doubt” White will be in uniform and playing in Thursday night’s game. Seems as though the dirty birds were simply giving Roddy as much rest as possible to ensure he is good to go. White will be a solid WR2/3 for this week’s matchup. Start the man!
