As it played out, the Redskins were the bidding champion and secured the services of Pro Bowl corner Josh Norman just days after his franchise tag was rescinded by the Carolina Panthers.

The Redskins emerged as the favorite to land Norman earlier this week; their 5 year, $75M deal proved to be too much for other clubs to top. Norman provides a huge boost to the secondary and will be the man forced to cover guys like Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham twice a year.
After making his first Pro Bowl, Norman emerged onto the scene with his length, insane cover skills and elite athleticism. Even at 28 years-old, Norman is at the peak of his game and can still offer some years at a high level. Many consider the Redskins to be the favorite to repeat as NFC East champions after this signing – if not even beforehand.
Norman played a pivotal role on Carolina’s defense this past year as he helped lead them to a 15-1 regular season record and Super Bowl appearance. His high contract demands were not going to be met by Dave Gettleman and Panthers brass, which led to the rescinding of his franchise tag. This gives Gettleman and the Panthers more flexibility when re-signing guys like Kawann Short, Star Lotulelei and Kon Ealy, among others.
