Jimmy Graham is playing in week seven, per Adam Schefter via Twitter. Schefter notes that Graham will not start the game due to his shoulder injury, but is expected to play. He will test the injury in pre-game warmups and will come in on sub packages, likely when the Saints enter the red-zone.

It should be noted that Graham has had success in a similar limited role in the past, as he toughed out an injury last year and scored two touchdowns in a game where he was never utilized between the 20s. That could very well be the case again this week, as the Saints try to come out strong from their bye week on the road against the Detroit Lions.

The Lions and being on the road are two things you may want to think about before knee-jerking Graham into your starting lineup, however. The Lions boast the best defense in the league and are fairly stingy against tight ends, specifically (just 7 points allowed in fantasy football over the past four weeks). That being said, this is Jimmy Graham we’re talking about and you’re not about to sit him in favor of someone like Coby Fleener. In fact, while Fleener is healthy and has the better matchup, he offers nowhere near Graham’s upside. If both players have limited roles in week seven, Graham is still the obvious pick.

Point being? If you drafted Graham to be that stud tight end, you have to play him this week. Just be sure he’s actually active and then hope for the best. That’s not the same on daily sites like Draft Kings, however, as Graham simply costs way too much for you to spend so much money on him. That takes depth away from your squad and you’re not getting the healthy, reliable Graham you usually pay for.
