Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston is a rare talent. He appears to be the next evolution of the quarterback positon. He is the antithesis of what your usual running QB is criticized for. Despite his freakish athleticism and ability to run effectively, Winston is natural pass first QB. After a magical run as a freshman, in which he not only won the Heisman but led Florida State back to the mountain top winning a BCS National Championship. Winston’s sophomore campaign has been marred by various off field issues, most alarmingly allegations of sexual assault. He is also currently entrenched in a scandal involving him selling his likeness for profit. His talent is undeniable, however the questions surrounding his character issues could seriously hurt his draft prospects.

Despite losing perhaps his two most potent weapons on offense (Kelvin Benjamin and Devonta Freeman) and missing time due to team violations, Winston is still having another excellent season. While his overall yards and TD numbers are down a bit, he has actually improved his already impressive 66.9 completion percentage to 70-percent this season. It is a lot to ask of him to duplicate his freshman season, nevertheless, he is still the best QB in the nation.

Let’s break down the strengths and weaknesses that NFL GM’s will be looking at when he decides to enter himself in to the draft.

If Winston can get his act together, his talent will earn him the distinction of being the first overall pick in the NFL draft. His status as a redshirt sophomore also leaves questions about when he’ll decide to enter the draft. He could declare after this season or could stay for another season. It’s very unlikely he would return for his senior season. With a sexual assault investigation and autograph signing scandal looming, he could be forced to leave college early. His talent is undeniable, so it would be shocking if he fell out of the first round. Where in the first round he falls is still a major question mark. He is the NCAA’s top prospect based on talent. He has the capability of being a transcendent talent and an all-time great QB.
