In case you weren’t sufficiently confused about the Cleveland Browns‘ backfield situation for Week 5’s game against the Tennessee Titans, we are here to help.
While Ben Tate has been out since Week 1 with a leg injury, rookie running backs Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell have taken over, doing an excellent job for the Browns, totaling 375 yards and 4 touchdowns between the two.
After putting up ridiculous numbers in college at Towson, West came into Browns camp with plenty of buzz. Meanwhile, Crowell was virtually unknown to fantasy players. But since Ben Tate suffered his injury, Crowell seems to be outplaying West, averaging an efficient 5.2 yards per carry and scoring three touchdowns in three games.
This was exemplified at the Browns practice on Wednesday when Crowell worked ahead of West in the rotation. Crowell looks to be passing West on the depth chart. “If a guy’s been productive, you find ways to get him on the field more,” Browns head coach Mike Pettine said.
That being said, there is still plenty of time before the Browns Week 5 game and a lot can happen. Ben Tate will likely return to the lineup and will at least share carries with the starter, if not regain the starting job for himself. I fully expect the Browns to be a legit RBBC, as they have three extremely solid options at running back.
