For a while there it didn’t look like Anquan Boldin would find a home for the 2016 season, up until the New Orleans Saints began engaging in talks with the 14th year veteran. The Saints have been making the strongest push for Boldin’s services as wide receivers coach John Morton hopes for a reunion as the two spent time together during their days in San Francisco.

Boldin spent the last three seasons in San Francisco, and even at 35 years old this past year remained a producer for the 49ers. Although, his 789 receiving yards were the lowest since his second year in the league back in 2004 when he missed 6 games. With the slip in production, does the ageless wonder still present fantasy value?

Fantasy Impact

When the season begins Boldin will be 36 years old. His explosiveness has surely diminished as it will continue to do in 2016, however, his work ethic and veteran savvy go unmatched. Potentially finding himself in an offense that was tops in the league last season, there will be opportunity for him to put up numbers.

Aside from aging, the other downside is the crowded WR corps in New Orleans. While I think Brandin Cooks won’t match last year’s production, he’ll still be the #1 guy for Brees. Plus they have Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and even Brandon Coleman was solid in 2015. Don’t forget about the addition of Coby Fleener as well.

While he finds himself with a pass-heavy offensive team, the fact of the matter is Boldin won’t be on the field enough to warrant fantasy value, especially at his age.
