Julio Jones wasn’t exactly 100% when the Atlanta Falcons faced off with the Washington Redskins in week five. When they take on the division rival New Orleans Saints in week six on Thursday Night Football, he might not even play.
Jones himself recently admitted that he “doesn’t know” if he’ll be able to suit up on the short week, as he continues to deal with a lingering hamstring injury. The Falcons, who enter a matchup with their hated rivals at 5-0, could give their superstar wide receiver the break in a game they might be able to win without him. Should Jones sit out, Roddy White and Leonard Hankerson would likely step up as the top two receivers for Atlanta’s passing game.
Julio Jones owners can start the sulking, as this doesn’t sound good. Even if Jones does play, many will be worried in the back of their mind that he’ll be nothing more than a decoy, or as limited as he’s been the past two weeks. A limited and active Jones is still worth using, but it might be best for the Falcons to just sit him out so they can get him back to 100%. If Jones does sit, it’s a minor hit to quarterback Matt Ryan’s fantasy value, but Roddy White, Leonard Hankerson and even tight end Jacob Tamme would all see spikes in their value (they’re all also cheap plays in daily fantasy football). Running back Devonta Freeman would also remain heavily involved in the passing game, just as he has been.
