The Detroit Lions won’t be at 100% in their offensive backfield when they host the Buffalo Bills in week five. Per reports, Joique Bell still isn’t completely ready to return to the field following a week four concussion, and he will miss the team’s week five contest. Fellow backup Theo Riddick is also out with an injury of his own, leaving starter Reggie Bush as the main man for the Lions to lean on in the running game.

With just George Winn (who?) behind him, Bush is slated for a huge role in week five, although fantasy football owners may want to temper their expectations in standard leagues, as the Bills are not an easy matchup on the ground. That being said, Bush did have his best game of the year at home in Detroit against the Packers, and he will without a doubt be getting the ball a ton as both a rusher and receiver.

Bush probably isn’t going to be a suggested play in standard leagues, as even the hefty role isn’t guaranteed to give him a ton of rushing yards or touchdowns. This Bills run defense completely swallowed up Arian Foster and Alfred Blue last week, and isn’t ranked #3 against the run on the year by accident.

With that being said, Bush could make a killing in fantasy as a receiver, making him a strong play in PPR leagues. Bush has already done a solid job in that department despite Bell stealing eight receptions on the year, but in this matchup he will see almost all of the third down and goal-line opportunities. Don’t expect an elite day out of Bush, but borderline RB2 upside or quality play out of the Flex spot are there for the taking.
