If you’re anything like me, you’re a waiver wire fiend come Tuesday – hell, you could even make your living in free agency if you wanted to. This week will mark the most anticipated start for a waiver wire add all season long. With Matt Forte ruled out this week with a knee injury, rookie Jeremy Langford will start in his place.
Langford came on for Forte this past week and carried the ball a career-high 12 times – almost double the amount of times he carried he ball prior to last week. Even with a limited workload, Langford has shown signs of flashes and looks to be the back of the future in Chicago. Forte’s contract expires after this season – a big part in Langford’s minimal workload as the Bears have been milking every little bit they can get out of Forte this season.
Coming out of Michigan State, Langford was the Bears 4th round pick this year. His skillset can easily be compared to Forte, making him the perfect successor. Langford has 4.4 speed and is a great receiver out of the backfield – he is still a raw runner, but has shown mass improvement over the past couple years in college. I expect a good career for Langford and for him to have a strong close to the season.
You’re all looking at Jeremy Langford this week – the spotlight is on him for sure. I’m very high on the rookie this week – especially against a favorable San Diego defense. You can expect a little more than a dozen carries with 100 total yards and a TD – a solid showing from your prized waiver wire pickup.
