Drew Brees missed his Week 3 game between the New Orleans Saints and the Panthers – and it’s expected that he still may not return by Week 4 for the Saints game against the Cowboys.

Previous reports state that Brees bruised his rotator cuff, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has said that Brees actually sprained his rotator cuff, which means there is some structural damage; which means a longer layoff until he is back to 100%.

With Brees in the inactive list, the Saints are likely to call on backup QB Luke McCown to get another start in week four against the Dallas Cowboys. McCown completed 31 of 38 passes for over 300 yards and an interception in week three.

Fantasy Insight

McCown was captain checkdown in week three, so he clearly isn’t helping the other Saints fantasy options get back on track. He could be a little better if he starts again in week four, while Dallas did get carved up quite a bit in week three (39 points allowed). This is bad news for Drew Brees owners, but there is hope a second missed game could be his last. Either way, prepare to be without Brees for a week or longer and avoid New Orleans players if you can until Brees returns to the field.
