The New England Patriots aren’t giving out much information in regards to the status of injured running back Dion Lewis. Lewis sat out of week seven due to an abdomen injury and was held to a limited role the week before. Heading into week eight’s Thursday Night Football showdown with the rival Dolphins, Lewis remains once again in doubt.
Head coach Bill Belichick isn’t making the decision-making process easy on fantasy football owners, either, recently suggesting that this week’s practices were light and/or easy. Lewis was listed as a “limited participant” in the team’s injury report on Monday, however, but was able to practice with the team on Tuesday. To what extent Lewis practiced and how far he’s progressed in the past week, it seems no one really knows.
“My mom probably could have gotten thru practice…” Belichick when asked about Dion Lewis, noting they didn’t really practice all week

Lewis is tentatively expected to return to the lineup for TNF, but could still be limited like he was two weeks ago. He’s been a major part of New England’s offense, but after Tom Brady can co. found ways to move the ball and put up points with Lewis limited or out over the past two games, it’s entirely possible the Patriots are purposely taking it slow with him. If Lewis is out or limited again, LeGarrette Blount stands to see the majority of the early down work, while James White and Brandon Bolden could see time on passing downs.
Fantasy owners would love to have Lewis back, as he was a total monster and one of the most consistent fantasy options prior to getting banged up. Lewis is especially a PPR fiend, but was really getting it done across all fantasy football formats due to his ability to rack up yardage and score. He could be in for a big night if fully healthy, but you’ll want to be completely sure he’s ready for a big role again before using him. Keep an eye on his status, as he’s likely going to be a game time decision for Thursday night.
