It’s old news by now, but if you haven’t heard, Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster is done for the year with a torn Achilles. Foster was inexplicably still in the game with under five minutes to go in a blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins when he suffered the non-contact injury.
It’s questionable on Bill O’Brien’s part, but regardless of how you look at it, Foster is still out for the year. That puts even more pressure on Houston’s suspect passing game, but opens the door for a massive role for backup rusher, Alfred Blue. Blue is naturally one of our favorite waiver wire pickups going forward, as he actually appeared to finally get going with a massive 139-yard and one-score game the week before Foster returned from a groin injury.
Foster won’t be returning from this one, so fantasy owners should go pick up Blue, whether they owned Foster or not. Blue is out there on the waiver wire in over 80% of fantasy football leagues, too, so you should stand a decent chance to landing him if you act today. Fellow backup Chris Polk will be sprinkled in and is worth a speculative add in case Blue falters or gets hurt, but initially he has far less value and upside. Jonathan Grimes is ever further back in the pecking order, but should more injuries hit Houston’s backfield, he also could end up holding some fantasy value. Blue is going to be a fun guy to try initially in daily fantasy football contests, as well.
