The biggest breakout performer in the fantasy landscape has been, without a doubt, Falcons tailback Devonta Freeman. Not only did the Falcons drop their third consecutive game, but their breakout star was forced to exit the loss due to a concussion he suffered early in the first quarter after a helmet-to-helmet collision.
Freeman’s status for the upcoming week is uncertain as he will ensue with the NFL’s concussion protocol. One thing is for certain, Atlanta can’t afford to lose their slasher in the backfield as they attempt a late playoff push.
Rookie, Tevin Coleman came on to replace Freeman and rushed for 48 yards on 17 carries, compiling less than 3 yards per rush. Terron Ward was issued additional snaps which saw him get five touches, three of which were receptions out of the backfield.
Depending on the severity of Freeman’s concussion, Tevin Coleman becomes a hot play in fantasy – he will be the must-have on the waiver wire this week. Remember, Coleman was forced to seize ‘his’ starting role early in the season after dealing with a rib injury. Coleman is the more prototypical NFL running back than Freeman based on size and skill-set. He is coming off an extremely productive college career at Indiana. If he’s given the start this upcoming week, he is a surefire FLEX start.
