Who has been the best receiver in the NFL through the first five weeks? A few names come to mind, but most would undoubtedly agree its Atlanta Falcons superstar receiver, Julio Jones. No receiver has had an impact in the passing game and has done the things that Jones has done so far this season.
Unfortunately for Jones and the Falcons, he has been dealing with a nagging leg the past two weeks. While he is a ‘go’ in week six on Thursday Night Football, his snaps will be monitored and limited. Jones expressed his desire to play this week, citing that the Falcons have something special going after starting the season 5-0 under rookie head coach, Dan Quinn.
The Falcons will be happy with Jones’ presence on Thursday Night Football as they take on the rival New Orleans Saints, which doesn’t figure to be a “gimme” win by any means, despite their records so far this year. Jones is 2nd in the league with 545 receiving yards, but Atlanta may need Roddy White and Leonard Hankerson to step up with Jones ailing.
A hot waiver wire pickup for the past week or so has been Leonard Hankerson. The first year Falcon is second on the team in receiving and is just one week removed from a 100+ yard, TD performance. His stock is boosted even more with Jones being limited. Roddy White is a guy to look out for, as he has only 8 catches on the year but could have an impact with an increased role. I really like Jacob Tamme this week, as he’s a big sleeper at the tight end position after a big game in week five.
While Julio Jones will be limited, he remains a must start in season long fantasy football leagues, as he is the best receiver in the league and can still go off no matter the playing time. Fading him in daily fantasy football leagues that start on Thursday night might be a good idea, however.
