With our final installment of our offensive positional rankings, we’re here to talk the beloved center position. Like offensive guards, centers are often overlooked as they prove to be a key component on a team’s offensive line. Perhaps the most underrated position in all of football, the center must deliver a crisp ball on every single snap with no miscues, then get his head up and block 300-pound linemen in front of him. A position not typically selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, just last year we saw the Indianapolis Colts pull the trigger on Alabama’s Ryan Kelly at #18 as they hope he can re-instill a Jeff Saturday type presence along that offensive line. While there are unlikely to be any centers off the board until day 2 in this year’s draft, there is one center in particular who surely deserves more hype. Read more below.

“The depth of the 2017 center class, as a whole, leaves a lot to be desired. However at the very top, we have a premier talent who is not getting nearly enough buzz. Pat Elflein from THE Ohio State University is an extremely polished interior offensive line prospect who exemplifies great leadership on and off the field. Elflein packs a quick, strong and accurate punch at the point of attack, causing defensive lineman to completely stall out before they even get started. He also brings versatility, having experience at both guard positions. When I think about Elflein, I think about a first round interior offensive line talent who can start at an elite level for 8+ years. From day one, I expect Elflein to anchor an NFL interior offensive line and three years from now I view him as an all-pro talent who will beat you with a combination of strength and technique. If your team needs a center they’ll need to hop on one early. Don’t over think it, Pat Elflein is the way to go.”
