As is the case every year in the NFL, injuries have a profound effect on several things, not the least of which is your fantasy team. My god, your fantasy team. You poor, helpless bastard. If you’re reading this, you probably have Calvin Johnson. While I typically don’t feel sorry for you in the least, for obvious reasons, I feel for you now.

(But not really. Screw you. I’ll give you Chris Johnson for him.)

The Lions’ star receiver, who has led Earth in just about every relevant WR category in recent years, missed last Sunday’s boring win over the Vikings with an ankle injury, and may not be back any time soon. Johnson told the Lions’ official website, “When I feel great, I’ll be out there. Just trying to be smart so we can manage this thing and finish the season strong.”

Translation: He’s not rushing his ass back. Nor should he. Johnson was clearly limited in each of the two games prior to the Vikings game, as he caught a total of just 3 passes for 19 yards against the Jets and Bills. If he’s playing hurt, he’s obviously not helping you very much. And that puts you, the fantasy owner, in an unenviable position, because you’d kinda have to be out of your effing mind to bench a guy like that if he’s going to be on the field.

So, in the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with your spares in his place. Detroit has games against the Saints and Falcons before their bye coming up in Week 9, and there’s a chance Johnson could sit until Week 10 in order to be at or near 100%.
