The Atlanta Falcons believe that they may have found their running back of the future in Devonta Freeman. Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn recently sang the praises of Devonta Freeman. Quinn even suggested that Freeman can be the star feature back for the Falcons. Freeman was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and while he didn’t see the field a ton as the main back, he flashed enough ability to warrant a shot in 2015.
Freeman is a high quality blocker and is expected to be the Falcons’ starting running back, especially after veteran Steven Jackson was released earlier this week. Showing flashes of brilliance during his rookie season, Freeman produced 248 yards on the ground and another 225 in the air. The Falcons are experience to be a pass-first offense, but Freeman will be expected to have plenty of contributing opportunities.
Quinn was quoted as saying, “I’m very impress with his running ability. He’s a very strong runner. He’s shorter in stature, but he has great strength.”
Fantasy football owners may want to pay attention to Freeman, who could ignite some energy in a lethargic Falcons running game. Freeman is a mere Flex play going into the 2015 fantasy football season, but if Atlanta doesn’t add any serious competition for the starting running back job, he could quickly spike to RB2 status.
