The NFL preseason is alive and well, teasing football fans all across the world to watch the week one matchups. This year is shaping up to be the perfect blend of emerging rookies and young players mixed with star veterans trying to reach the pinnacle by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year. While much of what goes down in the preseason right now may end up meaning nothing come week one of the regular seasons, it’s at least building a foundation to lead into a very intense first week.
There are several games on the week one NFL schedule that few will want to miss, but there are a few specific games that die hard NFL fans will want to flat out buy tickets for and go see the games live. Here’s a look at those five games:
1. Tennessee Titans @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This could be the birth of a rivalry between Marcus Mariota the number two pick in the 2015 NFL draft versus Jameis Winston the number one pick in the 2015 NFL draft. This game also features a future star in the making in Buccaneers wide out Mike Evans, who broke out as a rookie last year piling up 1,052 yards and 12 touchdowns.
2. Detroit Lions @ San Diego Chargers
This game features two high powered offenses led by Matthew Stafford of the Lions and Philip Rivers of the Chargers. The Lions and Chargers will also be rolling out highly talented rookie running backs in Melvin Gordon and Ameer Abdullah. This game should be very high scoring and entertaining for football fans.
3. Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons
Chip Kelly has been in the news more than any other NFL coach since the end of last year. The Eagles have high aspirations under Kelly and the direction of new quarterback Sam Bradford who came over from the Rams in a trade this offseason. It will also be interesting to see how Chip Kelly utilizes running back DeMarco Murray in his first year as an Eagle. On the flip side Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are looking to become the most prolific quarterback and wide receiver duo in the NFL. Atlanta is also looking to be better than a year ago when the Falcons recorded a 6-10 regular season missing the playoffs by a longshot.
4. New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
What better way to start the NFL year off than a rivalry dating back to 1960. The Cowboys are hyped up as always entering the 2015 season but will be without workhorse running back DeMarco Murray who joined up with the Eagles in the off season. The Giants will be looking to find themselves back in the postseason under Eli Manning and a week one win in Dallas would set the tone for the season. The main attraction will be between Giants wideout Odell Beckham Jr. and Dez Bryant of the Cowboys as they are two of the most exciting wideouts in the NFL.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers @ New England Patriots
The defending Super Bowl Champions will be hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL kickoff game. The emotions will be high for both sides as the Patriots will be honored as Super Bowl Champs and the Steelers are known to dislike the team from New England. This game will lose a little of its appeal as it appears Tom Brady will remain suspended, none the less anytime the Steelers and Patriots square off it will be a high drama matchup.
All in all it is great to have football back, but the preseason is little indication of what to expect come week one. This year has potential to be a very solid campaign filled with excitement and drama throughout the season. As football fans, we are all very exciting to know the end is near and the NFL season will be kicking off in just a few short weeks.
