The Johnny Manziel to the Cleveland Browns rumors just won’t stop. According to CBS Sports, Cleveland is “willing to trade up” to select Texas A&M product Johnny Manziel.
Browns GM Michael Lombardi is reportedly smitten with Manziel, while the Browns have two first round picks to use in trade talks. Provided the Houston Texans don’t want Manziel with the number one overall pick, the Browns could sweeten the pot and swing a deal to land the St. Louis Rams’ #2 draft choice.
Some suspect Lombardi and the Browns are merely putting up a smokescreen in an effort to inflate Manziel’s draft stock, presumably to allow the quarterback they truly want to slide down to them at the number four spot.
I still think Manziel is the best pure talent at the quarterback position in this draft, and for now am sticking to my guns that he’ll be the top pick in the draft. That could easily change with at least 3-4 players easily being in contention for the top pick, but Manziel fits Houston’s biggest need and is a complete game-changer.
With that said, if the Browns love him and the Texans actually don’t, Cleveland could very well end up being his final destination.
