The 2014 NFL season is finally here! Week 1 will commence with the Seahawks and Packers on Thursday Night Football. What a way to start the season.

Week 1 is extremely unpredictable but here are my thoughts for your week1 start/sits.

QB – Geno Smith, New York Jets

Listen…..this is strictly for you owners who, by the way your draft went, ended up with a guy like Andy Dalton as your starter. Not that Smith is better than Dalton either but I do like the matchup of Smith against Oakland over Dalton vs. Baltimore. Evaluate your matchup because chances are Smith is available on your waiver wire and might be worth a look.

RB – Toby Gerhart, Jacksonville Jaguars

The RB crop was pretty thin in this years’ draft. If Gerhart is on your bench just consider him; even as a flex play. I’m not too scared of the Eagles’ defense and I have to think the Jags are gonna feed Toby a ton. Also, you know Gerhart will get the goal line touches as he’s just a steamroller. He has value this week.

WR – Brandin Cooks, New Orleans

He might be the third receiver on the depth chart but the Saints do a lot of three receiver sets and Cooks will be in the slot. Only a rookie, but QB Drew Brees has confidence in him. Atlanta’s pass defense was 21st in the league last year and I’m not sure they’re much better.

TE – Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles’ offense should be an absolute juggernaut this year. They are going to throw a ton and Erta should get a ton of opportunities in this offense. He is an amazing route runner and a fantastic redzone threat. If he’s on your waiver wire just go get him and stash him at least. Potential huge game against the Jaguars.

D/ST – New England Patriots

I love the offseason additions the Pats made on defense. They can shut people down with Revis and Browner at the corners. Miami shouldn’t pose much of a threat.

QB – Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Houston’s defense is going to be pretty tough this year. Clowney and Watt will probably be able to get pressure. At least take a look at your other options if RG3 is your starter.

RB – Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers

Not that I’m high on Dallas’ defense but I’m just giving up on Frank Gore. He’s only going to be as high as a FLEX play from my standpoint. The 49ers have a lot of running backs and I think they’re all going to get some time; cutting into Gore’s carries and value.

WR – Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers

Go ahead…call me crazy! But it is Seattle’s defense and Richard Sherman. I’m not saying “sit” him I guess as I am more saying don’t expect the world from him. In a ” start 2 WR” league you may have a better option.

D/ST – Carolina Panthers

Carolina was a surprise on defense last year. Still ranked pretty high but Tampa Bay doesn’t look like a mess anymore; especially with Doug Martin back at RB. This game could have both teams in the 30’s.
